Elon Musk’s X to clamp down on parody accounts

Elon Musk's X Introduces Stricter Rules for Parody Accounts

Starting April 10, X will enforce new rules for parody accounts. These accounts must include keywords like “fake” or “parody” at the beginning of their names.

Parody account holders must also use different images from the accounts they imitate. This change aims to reduce confusion and impersonation on the platform.

Many users have expressed concerns about confusion caused by these accounts. Some have pointed out impersonators of Elon Musk specifically.

X stated that these changes will help users understand which accounts are not affiliated with real individuals. The company encouraged affected accounts to update their profiles before the enforcement date.

The new rules will also apply to fan and commentary accounts. One user commented, “Hopefully this includes all the thousands of fake variations of Elon Musk accounts.”

Another user added, “About time! I get a fake Elon account contacting me almost once a week.”

There are many parody accounts for Elon Musk, each identifying themselves in various ways. Posts from these accounts often include memes, jokes, and promotions for cryptocurrency or car giveaways.

One popular parody account has over one million followers. It recently posted asking users to "like and comment" for a chance to win a Tesla. This post received 428,000 likes and more than 200,000 replies.
