The Ghanaian film industry came together in grief and tribute at the National Theatre on March 27, 2025, to honour the late veteran actor Mawuli Yao Semevo, who passed away on February 20 after suffering severe burns in a fire accident at his home.

Veteran actor David Dontoh, speaking on behalf of Ghollywood, shared heartfelt memories of his friendship with Semevo, while the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, James Gardiner, highlighted his lasting legacy.

Fred Amugi and other veteran actors performed a moving choral piece, complemented by a cultural troupe’s traditional dirge in Semevo’s honor.

The vigil saw the presence of key industry figures, including Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts Dzifa Abla Gomashie, veteran actress Irene Opare, Catherine Afeku, Edinam Atatsi, Akofa Edjeani, and Inspector Bediako, all paying their respects to an icon whose contributions to the arts will never be forgotten.
