TGMA 2025: Empress Gifty In Tears, Dedicates Award To Late Mum
Ghanaian gospel singer Empress Gifty won the Best Traditional Gospel Music award. The award was presented at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards on May 10 in Accra.
Empress Gifty was nominated in three categories. She lost Best Gospel Music Artiste to Joe Mettle. However, she won for her single "Watch Me," produced by Kuami Eugene.
Last year, Empress Gifty lost her mother, Evangelist Agnes Aba Afful. Her mother was known as Agaga and appeared in commercials and Kumawood movies. Agaga was buried in Tema, but her memory remains strong for Empress Gifty.
When Empress Gifty received her award, it was an emotional moment. She took the stage with her husband, Hopeson Adorye, and manager Edem Tsotsorme. Her voice trembled as she dedicated the speech to her late mother and husband.
This marked Empress Gifty's second time on stage that night. She performed first after Unsung Artiste of the Year Yaw Darling had his moment.
Kuami Eugene expressed his excitement about Empress Gifty's win on social media. He congratulated her for winning Best Traditional Gospel Song for "Watch Me." He wrote a heartfelt message celebrating their collaboration on the song.
