Ghanaian gospel musician Gifty Oppong Adorye, known as Empress Gifty, has filed a lawsuit. She is suing Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, also known as Nana Agradaa. The lawsuit is for defamatory statements made about her.
Empress Gifty is seeking 20 million cedis in damages. This amount is from the traditional priest-turned-pastor Nana Agradaa.
According to the writ, on May 13, 2025, Nana Agradaa had a disagreement with Empress Gifty's husband. She used social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube to attack him. During a live broadcast, she made several defamatory remarks about Empress Gifty.
Nana Agradaa's comments included claims that Empress Gifty was promiscuous and disrespectful. She accused her of having inappropriate relationships with pastors and other men. These statements were made in Twi and translated into English.
The writ states that these words imply several damaging things about Empress Gifty. They suggest she is promiscuous and earns money through inappropriate means. They also claim she has affairs with pastors and that she lacks intelligence.
Empress Gifty argues that Nana Agradaa’s broadcast allowed others to spread these false claims widely online. The defamatory remarks have led to severe backlash against her on various platforms.
As a result of this situation, Empress Gifty's children are facing ridicule at school due to their mother's public image. Her reputation has suffered significantly because of these statements.
Her lawyers state that her status as a brand ambassador for multiple companies has been harmed. Additionally, an international program scheduled for August 2025 has been affected by the controversy.
Empress Gifty is claiming 20 million cedis for slander and libel against Nana Agradaa. She also seeks a court order to prevent further publication of similar defamatory statements.
Furthermore, she requests that all videos or audios containing these remarks be removed from Nana Agradaa’s social media accounts.
