Ghanaian gospel musician Gifty Oppong Adorye, known as Empress Gifty, has filed a lawsuit. She is suing Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, also known as Nana Agradaa. The lawsuit is for defamatory statements made about her.
Empress Gifty is seeking 20 million cedis in damages. This amount is stated in a writ of summons seen by myjoyonline.com.
The writ claims that on May 13, 2025, Nana Agradaa attacked Empress Gifty's husband on social media. She used Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube for a live broadcast. During this broadcast, she made several defamatory remarks about Empress Gifty.
Nana Agradaa allegedly said that Empress Gifty is promiscuous and disrespectful. She claimed that the singer's wife engages in inappropriate behavior to support her husband.
The writ explains that these statements imply several damaging things about Empress Gifty. They suggest she is promiscuous and has affairs with pastors. They also claim she earns money through inappropriate means.
Empress Gifty states that Nana Agradaa's comments have gone viral online. Many bloggers shared the video with their followers immediately after it aired.
As a result of these statements, Empress Gifty faces severe backlash online and offline. Her children are reportedly being teased at school due to the situation.
Her lawyers argue that Nana Agradaa’s actions have harmed Empress Gifty’s reputation significantly. They say this has caused public ridicule and shame for her and her family.
Additionally, they note that Empress Gifty serves as a brand ambassador for various companies. Her upcoming international program in August 2025 has also been affected by these comments.
In light of this situation, Empress Gifty demands 20 million cedis for slander and libel damages from Nana Agradaa. She seeks an order to prevent further defamatory statements from the defendant or her associates.
Finally, she requests that all videos or audio recordings containing these defamatory remarks be removed from all social media platforms owned by Nana Agradaa.
