Flights saga: An investigative c'ttee would have prevented tension and drama – Prof Appiagyei

Prof. Kwadwo Appiagyei Atuah, a law lecturer at the University of Ghana, has shared his views on recent political tensions. These tensions arose from allegations against Rev. Ntim Fordjour. He believes that an investigative committee could have prevented this situation.

During an interview on JoyNews' AM Show, Prof Atuah emphasized the need for a formal parliamentary process. He stated that serious claims about potential contraband should be handled properly.

He argued that establishing a committee would promote transparency and reduce escalation. “The process of obtaining information from Rev Ntim should have been through an investigative committee,” he said.

Prof Atuah stressed that the government must follow proper parliamentary procedures. Setting up such a committee would have been the best way to address these issues.

He also pointed out that Rev Ntim’s press conference did not eliminate the need for a formal inquiry. “A press conference does not move the matter outside of Parliament,” he explained.

Furthermore, he criticized the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for taking over the investigation. The NIB had stormed Rev Ntim’s residence over trafficking and money laundering claims.

Prof Atuah argued that this intervention only added to political drama and heightened tensions. “If the right processes had been followed, the issue would have been resolved more calmly,” he said.

He suggested that a parliamentary committee could have invited Rev Ntim and others to testify. This approach would address matters without escalating political temperatures.

In conclusion, Prof Atuah stated that the situation could have been handled more professionally. This could have prevented the current drama and tension dominating national discourse.
