Foreigners involved in galamsey and fraud will be deported, not prosecuted - Interior Minister

Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak announced that the NDC government will not prosecute foreigners involved in fraud and illegal mining.

Instead, the government plans to deport these individuals upon their arrest.

During a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, he emphasized this focus on removing foreign nationals engaged in galamsey. This illegal mining has caused significant environmental damage across the country.

Mubarak stated that those arrested for scamming and other fraudulent activities will face similar deportation.

This announcement follows recent efforts to deport 107 foreign nationals. These individuals were arrested for allegedly damaging forest reserves and water bodies through illegal mining and fraud.

Muntaka Mubarak highlighted the government's commitment to reducing the influence of foreign nationals, especially Chinese citizens, in these illegal activities.

He noted that the deportation exercise is part of broader efforts to restore order and enforce the rule of law.

The Interior Minister mentioned ongoing discussions with the Attorney-General for further guidance on this matter.
