Ga Trad Council storms church, seizes instruments over noise ban violation

Ga Traditional Council Task Force Seizes Church Instruments Over Noise Violations

On May 18, 2025, the Ga Traditional Council Task Force seized musical instruments from a church in Accra. This action followed allegations of noise-making violations. A female church member shared a video of the incident on social media. She expressed confusion about whether using a microphone violated the ban.

Many people reacted to the event online. The seizure occurred after the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) announced an annual noise-making ban. This ban is effective from May 12 to June 12, 2025. The AMA's statement, dated May 9, aligns with the Ga Traditional Council's observance of Nmaa Dumɔ.

The purpose of this directive is to maintain peace and respect cultural traditions. Unfortunately for the church, members faced consequences for defying this ban. The Task Force took speakers, microphones, and other instruments during their visit.

In her video, the church member expressed disappointment in the Task Force's actions. She noted that they were not playing music but using a microphone for service. She questioned how they could conduct services in a large auditorium without it.

Social media users shared various reactions to the incident. One user stated, "Let’s respect our culture and stop this hypocrisy." Another commented on whether traditions still hold relevance today.

Others questioned why there were no men present during the seizure and remarked on past restrictions related to noise-making. Some urged compliance with simple rules regarding noise regulations.

In another news story, Michael Nana Yaw Owusu Addo Jr., known as MJ and son of rapper Sarkodie, visited the Ga Mantse’s Palace recently. His growth impressed many as he confidently greeted officials during his school excursion.

The Ga Mantse presented school bags to MJ and his classmates at the end of their visit. A cheerful photo session captured this special moment between students and their traditional ruler.
