Ghanaian broadcaster Oheneyere Gifty Anti recently shared her journey to motherhood. Doctors once told her she could never carry a child.
In an interview on Family Forum Africa, she discussed her fertility struggles. She faced multiple failed IVF attempts before finally welcoming her first child.
Gifty has always loved children and feared she might not have any. Before marriage, she considered surrogacy and adoption. “I knew that whatever it takes, I was going to have a child,” she said.
Her journey was challenging. Medical exams revealed issues with her fallopian tubes. This led to a painful procedure to flush them out.
“It was one of the most painful treatments I had to go through,” she recalled. She underwent four rounds of IVF in Ghana and abroad, but none succeeded.
“At one point, I gave up,” Gifty admitted. A doctor told her, “I don’t think you can carry a child.” She accepted that it seemed impossible.
After marrying, Gifty informed her husband about her condition. “I told him, ‘Look, I may never be able to carry a child,’” she said. He remained supportive and encouraged her to keep hoping.
Hope returned after another medical procedure for an unrelated issue. A doctor encouraged her to try again, saying, “Your womb is fine.”
“He believed I could carry a child,” Gifty said. That motivated her to give it one last shot.
This time everything changed for the better. Gifty credits faith and support from her husband for her success.
“During the process, my husband sent me a gospel song,” she shared. He urged her to keep listening and praying for strength.
At an age many deemed risky for pregnancy, Gifty defied the odds and welcomed a daughter. “I was told it was impossible, but I carried my baby myself,” she expressed gratefully. “God had the final say.”
