Ghanaian Afrobeats star King Promise has made history. He won Artiste of the Year at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA). This is his first time winning this prestigious honor in Ghanaian music.
King Promise entered the music scene years ago with great potential. His journey to success has been filled with persistence and belief.
This year, he received 10 nominations. These included Album/EP of the Year and Telecel Most Popular Song. However, it was the biggest prize that marked his rise to the top.
In a heartfelt acceptance speech, King Promise connected with fans and aspiring artists. He shared how his journey began with a disappointment that almost broke him.
“If any young person is watching me right now who has a dream, use me as an example of resilience,” he said. “My first year when I broke out on the scene, I had seven nominations and left with zero.”
Instead of giving up, he chose to work harder.
“While some people laughed, I just worked harder because I believe in God’s timing,” he added. “Today, I am the chosen one.”
For years, King Promise's consistent output and chart-topping tracks made him popular. Despite previous nominations for Artiste of the Year, he had not won before this year.
Most notably, Stonebwoy won in 2024 when King Promise was nominated. This year's ceremony took place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre. Finally, King Promise ascended to the throne as Artiste of the Year.
