Actress Nana Ama McBrown has shared a personal story. She dropped out of secondary school due to unpaid fees. This experience had a significant emotional impact on her.
In an interview on TV3's New Day with Berla Mundi, McBrown discussed her education. She started at Prince of Peace Girls Secondary but didn’t finish Form 1. “I couldn’t pay my school fees and felt embarrassed,” she said. “I thought, this is not me. Let me step out.”
McBrown described how her classmates reacted when teachers entered the room. “Everybody would turn and look at me because they knew I was going home,” she recalled. “At that age, we couldn’t think it would be okay. I felt like it’s a disgrace.”
Despite this setback, McBrown refused to let shame define her. She later enrolled in the College of Business Studies to save face. However, she knew the certificate wouldn’t help her career.
“I enrolled in College of Business Studies knowing I wouldn’t need that certificate,” she admitted. “People kept asking why I wasn’t in school, and I felt embarrassed.”
