Dancehall star Stonebwoy is certain he has no challenger in this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year (AOTY) race, as he aims to make history as the first artiste to win the top award back-to-back.
The reigning TGMA Artiste of the Year faces stiff competition from King Promise, Black Sherif, Kweku Smoke, Joe Mettle, King Paluta, and Team Eternity Ghana. However, Stonebwoy and his team believe his dominance in the year under review makes him the clear favorite.
According to Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, Head of Public Relations for Burniton Music Group (BMG), Stonebwoy's work in the past year stands out.
“With three major hits—Psalm 23, Ekelebe, and Jiggle and Whine—and multiple nominations in this year’s TGMAs, no one in that category beats Stonebwoy.
His Up and Runnin6 album, featuring international stars like Wyclef Jean and Spice, has gained global recognition,” she told *Graphic Showbiz*.
Stonebwoy, the most nominated artiste in this year’s TGMA with eight nods, also boasts a strong international presence, recently selling out his Up and Runnin6 concert in London.
Addressing critics who argue that the award should go to a younger artiste, Boateng emphasized that the AOTY prize is based on merit, not sentiment.
“For those saying he’s won it before and should step aside, remember that this award is about consistency and impact, not just giving new artistes a chance,” she said.
Stonebwoy congratulated his fellow nominees and encouraged healthy competition while expressing gratitude to Live Nation for supporting his recent UK tour.
