“I’m going to get Ghana’s film industry working again” –Kafui Danku

Kafui Danku-Pitcher is the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority. She is optimistic about reviving Ghana's film industry. In an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, she discussed her plans for positive change.

Kafui highlighted key issues in the industry. These include funding and distribution challenges. She noted that these topics come up in 99% of interviews. Her goal is to establish a film fund and rejuvenate the industry.

Since taking office a month ago, Kafui has engaged with stakeholders. She aims to lay a strong foundation for her administration.

She also issued a press release for film practitioners. They need to register with the authority for their licenses. This registration will help classify their films properly.

According to the Development and Classification of Film Act, 2016 (Act 935), all films must be classified by the NFA before public exhibition in Ghana. The law states that no one can exhibit a film without NFA approval.

The regulation applies to various types of content, including feature films, documentaries, and music videos. It covers exhibitions in cinemas, on TV, online platforms, or any public space.

Starting May 1, 2025, new enforcement measures will take effect. Every producer or distributor must hold a valid license from the NFA for classification submissions.
