Kafui Danku-Pitcher is the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority. She is optimistic about reviving Ghana's film industry. In an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, she discussed her plans for positive change.
Kafui emphasized the need for funding and distribution in the industry. She noted that these topics come up in nearly all interviews. "We want to work towards getting the film fund," she said. She aims to get the industry working again.
Since taking office about a month ago, Kafui has engaged with film stakeholders. This engagement is part of laying a solid foundation for her administration.
She also issued a press release urging filmmakers to register with the authority. This registration will allow for proper classification of their films.
According to the Development and Classification of Film Act, 2016 (Act 935), all films must be classified by the NFA before public exhibition in Ghana. The law states that no one can exhibit a film without NFA approval.
The regulation aims to improve standards in Ghana's growing film ecosystem. It applies to feature films, short films, trailers, TV series, documentaries, adverts, music videos, and other audiovisual content shown publicly.
Stakeholders should note that starting May 1, 2025, new enforcement measures will take effect. Every producer or exhibitor must hold a valid license from the NFA for classification submissions.
