I’m open to collaborating with secular artistes - ACP Kofi Sarpong

Assistant Commissioner of Police and gospel musician, ACP Kofi Sarpong, has shared his views on collaborations between gospel and secular artists.

He spoke on The Career Trail program on Joy Learning TV and JoyNews. He said he would gladly collaborate with secular artists if the opportunity arises.

“If the opportunity comes, I will not hesitate,” he stated.

ACP Kofi Sarpong believes music is a mix of words and rhythms. These words reflect various life experiences, advice, and motivation. He sees no reason to separate gospel from secular music.

“All these words we combine into music are part of our lives,” he explained. He mentioned that teachings about marriage come from songs like Solomon's.

He added that motivations and proverbs are also found in music. Therefore, he questions why there should be a divide between gospel and secular genres.

He also noted that some secular songs have irresistible beats that make you want to dance. “Some of these secular songs, when you hear the beat you cannot stand,” he remarked.

While many view secular artists as "of the world," ACP Kofi Sarpong disagrees. He believes in engaging with them rather than stereotyping them.

“If we do not approach them, how can we help them?” he asked. He pointed out that even church members sometimes leave due to negative perceptions.

ACP Kofi Sarpong respects others' opinions but chooses not to judge. He welcomes collaborations with secular artists that inspire youth.

“If we can create something encouraging for the youth, I will do it,” he affirmed. However, he emphasized that lyrics would be crucial in his decision-making process regarding collaborations.
