John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has denied claims made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu. The Minister for Government Communications alleged that Fordjour was invited by security agencies but did not attend.
In a statement on X, Fordjour called these allegations false. He challenged Kwakye Ofosu to provide proof of any invitation. He stated that no security or intelligence agency had ever contacted him.
Fordjour expressed his willingness to work with Parliament on President John Mahama’s directive if it is genuine. He criticized the government’s response as disingenuous and misleading.
He mentioned that his request for a joint security briefing was blocked by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus and the government. This briefing would have allowed updates on ongoing investigations.
Fordjour accused them of protecting security agencies from accountability. He questioned their motives, asking what they might be hiding.
He also commented on two suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport. While Kwakye Ofosu confirmed their entry and departure, Fordjour found his explanation unconvincing.
Additionally, he raised concerns about the lack of updates on significant security issues. This includes 12 containers filled with gold and cash seized by National Security in February.
Fordjour highlighted the absence of information regarding high-profile cocaine busts worth $500 million. These included separate seizures valued at $350 million and $150 million.
He accused the government of deliberately hiding important details about these cases. Fordjour described their response as an attempt to avoid accountability.
He insisted that authorities must be transparent in their actions. He emphasized that Ghana should not become a hub for cocaine trafficking or money laundering.
Fordjour reaffirmed his commitment to using parliamentary tools to demand accountability. He aims to protect the integrity of the country through these efforts.
