I wanted to be a rapper – Yvonne Nelson

Actress and film producer Yvonne Nelson shared her childhood dream. She wanted to be a rapper.

In an interview on The Career Trail, she looked back at high school. She was part of a rap group then.

“I wanted to be a rapper. I used to rap a lot in school. We had a group like the Fugees, and I was the Lauryn Hill,” she said.

She felt excited about entertainment events. They gave her chances to showcase her talent.

Her dream changed when she met filmmaker Abdul Salam. He introduced her to the movie industry, changing her life forever.

"Life happens. Destiny happens," she explained. "I didn’t even audition for a role."

Abdul Salam saw her at Afrikiko and took her number. He invited her to the set, starting her career.

This led to her first major role in Princess Tyra. It made her a household name.

Despite fame, Yvonne faced challenges while studying at Central University. She was a Level 200 student and juggled acting with academics.

She recalled one tough moment filming with actor Kofi Adjorlolo. He got angry when she forgot her lines and wasn’t acting well.

“He stepped out and said, change her; she can’t act,” she remembered.

Instead of feeling discouraged, Yvonne chose to learn from it. “I had to believe in myself,” she said.

Although she didn't become a rapper, she's happy with where she is now in entertainment.
