Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation Magazine, responded to reports on Ghanaian social media. These reports claimed that Nigerian billionaire Benedict Peters was arrested in Accra. He allegedly deployed an “armed militia” that blocked access to a residential estate near Jubilee House.
Momodu took to his verified Instagram page to address the situation. He called the incident an “overblown story.” He criticized how news about Nigerians abroad is often sensationalized.
He noted, “Any news involving Nigerian citizens generates hoopla and hysteria.” Momodu described Peters as a well-informed and unassuming businessman. He believed the negative portrayal of Peters was unfair.
Momodu also revealed he spoke with Peters after the incident. The businessman confirmed that Ghanaian authorities acted professionally and quickly. They effectively calmed tensions during the situation.
“He said the Ghanaian authorities acted promptly and responsibly,” Momodu stated. This conduct reinforces Ghana’s reputation as a welcoming place for investors and tourists.
Official statements from Ghanaian security officials have not yet been released. However, Momodu’s comments may help clarify public misconceptions about the incident.
Benedict Peters is the founder of Aiteo Group, a leading energy company in Nigeria.
