Vic Flick, the guitarist behind the iconic James Bond theme riff, has passed away at 87. He famously earned £6 for recording Monty Norman’s theme for 'Dr. No' (1962) on a Clifford Essex Paragon Deluxe guitar, now showcased at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Born in Surrey in 1937, Flick collaborated with music legends like The Beatles, Tom Jones, and Eric Clapton.
He also contributed to other Bond soundtracks, including Shirley Bassey’s 'Goldfinger' theme.
Flick’s son Kevin revealed his father died after battling Alzheimer’s. In 2013, Flick received a lifetime achievement award from the National Guitar Museum, recognizing him as one of the world’s greatest guitarists. He is survived by his wife Judith, son Kevin, and a grandchild.
