Singer Jessie J has been diagnosed with early breast cancer.
The Price Tag singer, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, shared the news in an Instagram video. She mentioned spending a lot of time "in and out of tests."
Jessie J plans to "disappear for a bit" after performing at Capital Radio's Summertime Ball later this month. She will undergo surgery following the event.
"I was diagnosed with early breast cancer," the 37-year-old said in the video. She added, "Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding on to the word 'early.'"
She joked about her situation, saying, "It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job." After her surgery, she hopes to return with new music.
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the UK. Jessie J believes sharing her diagnosis helps her process it and connect with others facing similar challenges.
"I wanted to be open and share it," she explained. "I do not talk about it enough because I'm working so hard."
She finds comfort in sharing experiences with others who offer love and support. "It breaks my heart that so many people are going through worse," she said.
Jessie J reflected on how this experience has given her perspective during a challenging time. "Honestly, I need to process it and talk about it," she admitted.
"I need a hug," she added. "You have loved me through all my good and hard times."
Messages of support flooded her post from fans and celebrities alike. Former Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock wrote: "Sending you so much love."
Fellow singer Rita Ora commented: "You're literally my favourite person and I'm praying for you." She shared that her mother had breast cancer too.
In 2023, Jessie J welcomed her son Sky Safir Cornish Colman after suffering a miscarriage in November 2021.
Throughout her life, she has faced health challenges including a heart condition at age eight and a minor stroke at eighteen. In 2020, she also experienced temporary deafness.
