Actor and filmmaker John Appea shared a compelling story from his youth. He was asked to transport hard drugs from Africa to the West when he was a teenager.
At around 15 or 16, he traveled to see his father using a diplomatic passport. His bags were never searched at European airports. People learned about his status and approached him with drug offers for France and Germany.
They told him, “Just put it in your bag; no one will see.” The temptation of quick money was strong, but he resisted. Appea believed he didn’t need fast cash.
He acknowledged that luck played a role in his decision-making. “If my life was about making money, I might have done it,” he said. However, his focus has always been on success and helping others.
For him, making God proud is more important than wealth. Raised as a Christian, John's father is Rev Dr Emmanuel Apea Snr, a former diplomat and UN ambassador.
