John Mahama, NDC flagbearer, has renewed the party’s commitment to boosting Ghana’s creative industry by promising a new national theatre in Kumasi if elected.
Speaking in Kumasi, Mahama reiterated this pledge, initially outlined in the NDC’s 2020 manifesto, emphasizing the goal to create vibrant artistic spaces beyond Accra.
He also highlighted the deteriorating condition of Accra’s National Theatre, built with Chinese support during Jerry Rawlings’s presidency, noting issues like malfunctioning curtains and a broken stage.
Mahama outlined plans to modernize the theatre, making it a state-of-the-art facility.
The proposed Kumasi theatre is part of the NDC’s broader vision to enhance regional inclusivity and strengthen Ghana’s cultural sector.
