Joyce Blessing recalls how her parents’ divorce shattered her education

Joyce Akosua Twene, known as Joyce Blessing, is a gospel singer. She recently shared how her parents' divorce impacted her education.

Joyce had dreams of becoming a journalist, fashion designer, and musician. However, she had to drop out of school in junior high due to the separation. After that, she lived with others and worked as a domestic worker.

Eventually, Joyce started selling goods on the streets of Kumasi. She realized she could support herself by buying and selling items. This led her to live on the streets while selling.

In an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Changes, Joyce spoke about her struggles. “It was a broken home because my mom and dad were not together,” she said. “I wanted to be a singer, designer, or news anchor but didn’t get the chance.”

Roselyn asked what Joyce did after dropping out of school. Joyce replied that she sold many items like sachet water and food products. “I sold broom, gari, pear, cassava, plantain, alata soap, and kerosene,” she explained.

She recalled waking up early to help a kenkey vendor before school. After classes ended for the day, she would gather firewood to sell to food vendors.

Despite these challenges, Joyce improved her English skills through technology. The 'Unbreakable' singer worked hard to achieve her music dreams.
