A social media user has ridiculed former Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong after a Superior Court of New Jersey in the United States awarded investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas $18 million in a defamation lawsuit.
Reacting to the ruling, the netizen humorously compared Agyapong’s legal debt to the financial struggles of Spanish football club FC Barcelona.
"Now Kennedy Agyapong dey owe pass Barcelona Anas adidi rough," the user posted on X.
The court's decision follows a legal battle over defamatory remarks Agyapong made against Anas during a 2021 interview on The Daddy Fred Show.
Anas accused Agyapong and social media commentator Frederick Asamoah of spreading false claims, including linking him to the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.
The ruling contrasts sharply with a 2023 verdict in Ghana, where an Accra High Court dismissed Anas’ defamation case against Agyapong, describing his journalism as “investigative terrorism.”
Meanwhile, Agyapong’s legal team has filed for a reduction in the damages awarded.
