King Promise (KP), the 2025 Artiste of the Year at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, shared his surprise about his music's popularity in Asia.
In 2024, KP toured Asia, showcasing Afrobeats to a new audience. He noted that this continent had not hosted many Afrobeats shows before.
“I was the first African to perform in Singapore,” he said. “I sold out shows in Singapore, Bali, and Jakarta.” He also performed in Kuala Lumpur and Japan.
He expressed pride in representing Ghana during these performances. The audiences were diverse and not primarily Ghanaians.
“It’s beautiful to see people from different cultures enjoying my music,” he added. He felt grateful that Ghanaians could celebrate this achievement together.
KP clarified that these were his own King Promise Live shows. Fans paid to attend and enjoy his performances.
He received support from local teams in each country he visited. This collaboration helped make the shows successful.
Reflecting on his tour experiences, he admitted he was unsure what to expect initially. “It felt weird and different,” he recalled. However, he soon realized that fans knew his music well.
“They sang my songs word for word,” KP said with excitement. He mentioned tracks like CCTV, Sisa, and Abena being popular among audiences.
He believed either fans were already familiar with his work or they discovered it through his latest album, True to Self.
“It was truly beautiful,” he exclaimed joyfully. Many fans told him they had been waiting for him for a long time and loved his music for years.
