King Promise on 'truly beautiful' surprises performing as Afrobeats' torchbearer in Asia

King Promise (KP), the 2025 Artiste of the Year at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, shared his surprise about his music's popularity in Asia.

In 2024, KP toured Asia, showcasing Afrobeats' growing appeal. He noted that it was a new market for Afrobeats shows.

"I was the first African to perform in Singapore," he said. "I sold out shows in Singapore, Bali, and Jakarta." He also performed in Kuala Lumpur and Japan.

He expressed pride in representing Ghana on this tour. The audiences were diverse and not primarily Ghanaians.

"It was amazing to see people enjoying my music," he added. "Ghanaians can proudly say, 'This is ours!' I'm thankful."

KP clarified that these were his own King Promise Live shows. Fans paid to attend and enjoy his performances.

He received support from local teams in each country visited. They helped ensure the success of his shows.

Reflecting on the tour, he admitted he had no expectations initially. "It felt different," he recalled, but soon realized fans knew his music well.

"They sang my songs word for word," he said excitedly. He mentioned tracks like CCTV and Sisa surprised him with their popularity.

He believed audiences either already loved his music or discovered it through his latest album, True to Self.

"It was truly beautiful," KP exclaimed about the experience. Fans told him they had been waiting for him to perform for a long time.
