King Promise, Ghana’s Afrobeat star, is a strong contender for Artiste of the Year. The 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) will take place on May 10, 2025.
He confidently claims his win is “non-negotiable.” He cites his hard work and consistency over the past year. However, he faces tough competition from six other nominees.
Nominees include:
- Stonebwoy
- Joe Mettle
- Black Sherif
- King Paluta
- Kweku Smoke
- Team Eternity
Why King Promise Stands Out
His hit song "Terminator" was a huge success. It earned him multiple awards at the 2024 TGMA. He won Best Afropop Song and Best Afropop/Afrobeats Artiste. He also received the Telecel Most Popular Song of the Year award.
King Promise has performed at major events, including Richard Nii-Armah Quaye’s birthday celebration. Music executive Kwasi Ernest supports him, stating he “stands tall” among nominees. His net worth is estimated at $3 million in 2025.
Though private about his life, King Promise values his Ghanaian roots deeply.
The Contenders He Must Beat
Stonebwoy is the reigning Artiste of the Year from 2024. He is known for his Afro-Dancehall music.
King Paluta's manager argues he deserves more recognition for three major hits: "Makoma," "Aseda," and "For the Papping." Joe Mettle and Team Eternity represent gospel music with a different fan base.
Black Sherif and Kweku Smoke have had strong years too. Black Sherif’s international appeal plays a significant role in his popularity.
The Debate Around His Win
King Promise’s Public Relations Officer, Tilly Akua Nipaa, dismisses claims of winning out of “pity.” She emphasizes that his record-breaking year speaks for itself. With ten nominations this year, up from six last year, he has four major hits: "Paris," "Continental," "Sexy," and "Favourite Story."
She insists that his growing influence makes him a deserving contender.
King Promise responds to critics by stating he earned his crown through hard work and global success. Winning Artiste of the Year would elevate Ghanaian music worldwide.
As the 2025 TGMA approaches, will King Promise claim the crown? Or will another contender shine brighter?
