Ghanaian music star King Promise has won Artiste of the Year. This award is from the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
This is his first time winning this prestigious award. He was nominated in 2024 and 2025 but did not win then.
King Promise also received three other awards: Best Afropop Song, Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste, and Best Album/EP of the Year.
In his acceptance speech, he encouraged young people to pursue their dreams. He shared his own journey as an example of resilience.
“Use me as an example of resilience,” he said. “My first year, I had seven nominations and left with zero.”
He added that while some laughed, he worked harder because he believes in God's timing. “Today, I am the chosen one,” he concluded.
Born Gregory Bortey Newman, King Promise grew up surrounded by music. Since 2016, he has released many chart-topping songs.
Before winning Artiste of the Year, he highlighted his achievements over the past year. He mentioned songs like “Paris,” “Continental,” “Favorite Story,” and “Too Sexy.”
He believes winning this award honors him personally and promotes Ghanaian music globally.
“I have been consistent and put in much effort this year,” King Promise told Hitz FM. “The work speaks for itself.”
This year, King Promise earned ten nominations at TGMA, doubling his previous total. He has toured extensively across Asia, Europe, and North America to boost his international appeal.
