The trial involving journalist Latif Iddrisu and the Inspector General of Police resumes today. This is happening at a family court in Accra. It comes eight years after Iddrisu was assaulted by police officers.
His Lordship Abass Abubakari Adams is the third judge on this case. The trial will continue after he successfully adopted it.
Latif Iddrisu was attacked while on duty in March 2017. Police officers assaulted him at the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters. He suffered a fractured skull from being hit with a gun butt.
The police claim that CCTV cameras did not capture the assault. Initially, they promised to compensate Iddrisu but later withdrew that offer. This led him and his employer, Multimedia Group Limited, to seek justice in court.
After eight years of medical treatment in California, Iddrisu continues to fight for justice. The Ghana Journalist Association may take the case to ECOWAS court if progress is not made. They are also concerned about the assassination of journalist Ahmed Suale.
Iddrisu's injury has negatively impacted his career and personal life. His colleagues and close associates have reported these effects.
Senior state attorney Nancynetta Twumasi Asiamah will cross-examine Iddrisu today when the case is called.
