Rex Omar Urges Ghanaian Musicians to Focus on Local Awards
Rex Omar is a musician and a staff member for the Black Star Experience. He recently spoke with GhanaWeb on April 19. He urged Ghanaian musicians to focus on local award programs.
Omar pointed out that the Grammy Awards are meant for Americans. He believes Ghanaian artists should value their own awards schemes. He said, “If you disrespect the Ghana Music Awards, I don’t understand it.”
He explained that Grammy was not created for Ghanaians. BET is an American TV station that also has its own awards. Omar emphasized the need for Ghanaians to believe in their own achievements.
He suggested that industry participants should unite to create an award program similar to the Grammys. This initiative could attract musicians from other countries as well.
Omar stated, “We can develop our own award if we do it well.” He believes this would encourage participation from other nations too. It’s about creating a whole ecosystem that makes a meaningful impact in music.
