Madonna says she and Elton John ‘finally buried the hatchet’ after decades-long public feud

Madonna and Elton John have ended their long feud. The two stars have publicly exchanged insults since 2004.

On Monday, Madonna shared a photo on Instagram. She attended John's performance on "Saturday Night Live." In the caption, she wrote, “We Finally Buried the Hatchet!!!”

Madonna expressed her hurt over John's past comments about her. She said she admired him but didn’t understand his dislike. When she learned he was performing on SNL, she decided to confront him.

She wrote, “I needed to go backstage and confront him.” When they met, John immediately said, “Forgive Me.” This moment broke down their wall of animosity. They hugged within minutes.

Madonna also mentioned that John wrote a song for her. He wants to collaborate with her in the future.

Their feud began in 2004 at the Q Awards. John accused Madonna of lip-syncing while accepting an award. Since then, they have traded public insults.

In 2012, Madonna won a Golden Globe for best original song. She beat John's song from "Gnomeo & Juliet." Before the awards, John claimed she had no chance of winning.

Now it seems they have made peace. Madonna praised John's legacy in her post. She said seeing him perform changed her life as a teenager.

She felt like an outsider growing up and found comfort in his performances. Later on Monday, John commented on her post. He thanked her for forgiving him and acknowledged her work as an artist.

He also recognized her advocacy for HIV/AIDS since the 1980s. John expressed gratitude for moving forward together amid divisiveness in the world.

He hopes their collaboration can support communities in need globally.
