President John Mahama has directed the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to investigate former President Akufo-Addo's official travels.
Accra-based Asaase Radio reports that officials say this is part of efforts for accountability. They aim to ensure proper management of state resources.
During Akufo-Addo’s time in office, opposition parties raised concerns about travel costs. Civil society groups also questioned the expenses related to his international trips.
In 2021, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa accused him of spending millions on luxury flights. He suggested using the state-owned presidential jet instead.
These issues sparked calls for more transparency in government travel spending. The government has not yet commented on this investigation.
