Medikal accused of sampling Alabaster Box’s ‘Akwaaba’ without permission

Rapper Medikal is facing legal action over allegations of unauthorized sampling of Alabaster Box’s hit song “Akwaaba” in his track “Welcome to Africa.”

A letter from Sustineri Attorneys, representing Alabaster Box, claims that the first 10 seconds of Medikal’s song infringes on the copyright of “Akwaaba,” which has been exclusively owned and performed by the group for over two decades.

The law firm has demanded the removal of the song from all platforms, cessation of live performances, and an account of all revenue generated.

The letter also warns of potential legal action if these demands are not fulfilled.
