Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh criticized the government. He accused it of not taking illegal mining seriously. This came as Parliament approved 1.8 billion cedis for the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry.
During budget discussions, Annoh-Dompreh questioned the lack of dedicated funding. He asked why the government claims to fight illegal mining without financial support.
He called for urgent conversations to allocate resources for this issue. “The big fish here is galamsey,” he stated. He expressed concern after reviewing a 19-page report that lacked focus on galamsey.
Annoh-Dompreh was disappointed that the annual budget did not address illegal mining clearly. “It is regrettable, totally regrettable,” he said. He urged further engagement with the Minister about this matter.
“There should be a definite expression for fighting galamsey,” he added. He emphasized that this issue cannot be ignored, despite supporting the motion.
