Moliy overtakes Tyla on Billboard Charts as Shake It To The Max reaches no.1

Moliy Overtakes Tyla on Billboard US Afrobeats Charts

Ghanaian singer Moliy has reached number one on the Billboard US Afrobeats Charts. Her viral song, "Shake It to the Max" remix, dethroned South Africa's Tyla. The song moved from number two to number one, ending Tyla’s 20-week reign with "Push 2 Start."

Tyla had held the top position since December 2024. This marks the first time all four artists on the remix have reached number one.

The remix was released on February 21, 2025. It gained popularity quickly, aided by a TikTok dance challenge. Within a month, the music video had over 22 million views on YouTube and topped trending charts in Jamaica.

The song debuted at number three on the Billboard US Afrobeats chart and number one on the World Digital Song Sales chart before climbing to the top this week. Despite her success, Moliy lost out on Best Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

That award went to Stonebwoy for his song "PSALM 23." During his acceptance speech, Stonebwoy acknowledged Moliy’s contributions to Ghanaian music and its international reach.

Social media users reacted positively to Moliy's success. One user praised her for promoting Ghana globally. Another noted that Stonebwoy won most popular dancehall song of the year despite Moliy's nomination.

Moliy has also surpassed Amaarae as the most listened-to Ghanaian artist on Spotify. She now has over 5.6 million monthly listeners as of April 16, 2025. This achievement ends Amaarae's long-standing lead.

The surge in listenership is largely due to her hit "Shake It to the Max (FLY)" remix featuring Jamaican artists Skillibeng and Shenseea. The song continues to gain popularity daily.
