Ghanaian artist Wendy Shay has shared how online trolls nearly ended her music career.
She described herself as the most bullied artist in Ghana. In an interview with Adesope Shopsydoo on the Afrobeats Podcast, she spoke about the negativity she faced. Many music lovers believed she was living in the shadow of the late Ebony.
During this tough time, her mother suggested she quit music. Her mother wanted her to leave Ghana and return to Germany, where they had previously lived.
Wendy said, "My mum told me to quit and come back to Germany." She added that the situation affected everyone in her family. Some relatives even felt shy to associate with her during that period.
Wendy understood their actions because the ridicule was overwhelming for them. She recalled, "Imagine they take your face and make you look like an old woman." The trolling made her feel inadequate as an artist.
Despite these challenges, Wendy still has fans who support her music. Since entering the industry, she has won several awards at 3Music Awards and Ghana Music Awards.
Currently, her song "It's Too Late" is gaining popularity on various media platforms. It has also topped music charts around the world.
