What do you do when an old song becomes popular? You breathe and perform.
Ghanaian singer Ayisi is embracing this unpredictability.
He released “Can I Live” in 2022 on his Unbroken album. It was the last track on the album.
At first, the song didn’t gain much attention. It remained unnoticed until a live version changed everything.
Ayisi performed it with P Wizzle and the Q Live Band. “After I did the live version, it felt like a new song,” he said. “It was released, but it never blew. For one year, it was sleeping.”
Now, three years later, the song is everywhere—on WhatsApp statuses and viral reels.
“The next morning… it’s just everywhere I could think,” Ayisi recalled. “I’m like ‘Ah but it’s the same song!’”
Fans say its success comes from more than just his voice. They appreciated the visual authenticity of the live performance.
“The feedback was: ‘Well now it’s live,’” he explained. “We can see you sitting there, singing with the band.”
Even his hairstyle contributed to his newfound popularity.
“Your hair did the magic as well,” Roselyn teased him. Ayisi laughed and credited his stylist Mina.
With “Can I Live” finally receiving love, Ayisi is open to new creative energy.
“I should stay open to new vibes,” he said. “I’m not the same person now.”
For him, it's no longer about chasing trends; it's about authenticity and artistry.
