Hiplife star Mzbel has expressed her disappointment about not winning any awards.
"I have been in the industry for 20 years, and I’ve never received any award," she said.
Her debut album, Awoso Me, released in 2004, made her famous. At one point, she was the most prominent female artist in pop music.
During her peak, Mzbel gained popularity in Nigeria, Liberia, Ivory Coast, and Kenya. However, she feels more appreciated by these countries than by Ghana.
Mzbel believes the issue lies with her branding. She pointed out problems with public relations and wardrobe choices. If given a second chance, she would improve her approach.
"I am not blaming anybody," she stated. "I think it is the branding."
She added that if starting today, she would focus more on branding. "The branding wasn’t put together well," she explained.
Mzbel also addressed rumors of her retirement from music. She mentioned that a new song about bad friends will be released soon.
Known for her boldness and memorable hits, Mzbel challenged conservative norms in early 2000s Ghana. Her popular songs include 16 Years, Yopoo, Awoso Me, Bra Fiifi, and Edey Be.
