Nigerian TV journalist Bukola Agbakaizu dies while on duty

Bukola Agbakaizu, a seasoned journalist at Ogun State Television (OGTV), has died. She collapsed while on duty in Abeokuta on Monday, May 12, 2025.

Agbakaizu, 52, was preparing for her afternoon bulletin when she suddenly slumped. Despite efforts to revive her and rush her to the hospital, she was pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Centre.

Her death has caused grief and shock in media circles. Colleagues remember her commitment to journalism and unionism.

Agbakaizu was an active member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). She served as Vice Chairperson of the OGTV Chapel and held an ex-officio position on its executive.

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) paid tribute to her. They described her as a trailblazer dedicated to journalism and women's welfare.

She is survived by two children and her elderly mother. They mourn the loss of a woman whose voice resonated through many broadcasts.
