A Nigerian businessman, Ben Peters, was arrested in Ghana on April 7. He was detained by National Security operatives near the Presidential office in Accra.
Along with Peters, 25 others were also arrested. They allegedly blocked a road leading to an estate at Kanda. This estate is near Jubilee House, where diplomats live, including the Spanish Ambassador.
Mustapha Gbande, Deputy Director of Operations at Jubilee House, shared this information on JoyNews' Pulse. He stated that Peters and his armed security guards blocked the main entrance for over three hours due to a business dispute.
Gbande noted that about 60 to 70 people gathered in the area. Peters' men wore black suits and white shirts and had sirens on their trucks.
He questioned why a private individual could act with such power in Ghana. Gbande said it was unlawful behavior and handed Peters over to police for questioning.
Police discovered motorbikes and an SUV while trying to pick up Peters from his apartment. When asked about his actions, Peters claimed he owned several apartments there. He said the developer refused to give him extra keys, prompting him to block the road for attention.
Gbande reported that around 20 to 25 individuals were arrested during this incident. This included Ben Peters and another man found in his apartment.
Initial reports suggested that Peters resisted arrest until Ibrahim Mahama arrived. However, Gbande clarified that Mahama was not present; instead, police overpowered Peters with additional force.
When asked about Peters' business involvement, Gbande revealed he managed COVID infrastructure projects for President Akufo-Addo's office.
He emphasized that foreigners should not treat Ghanaians with such disregard. The country cannot allow individuals to hold communities hostage like this.
