Nollywood filmmaker and actor Ugezu J. Ugezu has issued a warning to Nigerians eager to "Japa," which means relocating abroad. He urges them to think carefully before making such significant decisions.
On his Instagram page, Ugezu shared a story about a Nigerian doctor. This doctor sold his clinic in Nigeria and moved to the United States with high hopes. However, his reality in the US was very different from what he expected.
Ugezu wrote, “In the name of JAPA, a practicing medical doctor in Nigeria sold his clinic and relocated to the US. Guess what? He now works as a butcher in a meat shop, hiding from Nigerians to avoid being noticed… FOR HOW LONG?”
The former doctor now lives quietly, cutting meat and avoiding fellow Nigerians. Ugezu highlights that many people romanticize life abroad without knowing the full truth.
He warns that things are not always as they seem and advises others to be cautious.
While seeking better opportunities abroad is understandable, Ugezu's post raises important questions. It emphasizes the need for planning and understanding the challenges of migration.
Many professionals face barriers like licensing and accreditation when moving abroad. They often struggle to adapt to new systems while trying to survive.
