“No one should touch anyone’s child” – Yvonne Nelson rejects caning in schools

Actress and school owner Yvonne Nelson has condemned corporal punishment in schools, urging teachers to abandon caning for more compassionate methods.

Speaking on The Career Trail, Nelson stressed that no teacher has the right to physically discipline a child, even with parental consent. She advocates for counseling, time-outs, and communication as better ways to manage student behavior.

Drawing from her school days, Nelson recalled skipping classes and exams due to fear of beatings—an experience that hampered her academic performance. While acknowledging the proverb "spare the rod and spoil the child," she insists it applies strictly to parents at home, not educators.

“Fear doesn’t help children learn,” she emphasized, calling for reforms in school discipline.
