Nollywood producers weigh in on Netflix partnership challenges

Netflix recently dismissed rumors about exiting the Nigerian market, reaffirming its commitment to Nigerian stories.

However, Nollywood producers have voiced concerns.

Director Lancelot Imasuen criticized Netflix's reliance on third-party aggregators and called for direct dealings with content creators.

He urged the platform to democratize the commissioning process to include more filmmakers.

Former ANCOP president Alex Eyengho echoed these sentiments, labeling the aggregator system as “retrogressive.”

Meanwhile, Fidelis Duker, founder of the Abuja International Film Festival, believes Netflix’s potential exit would have minimal impact, as many filmmakers are already leveraging YouTube.

Despite Netflix's positive influence, producers want more inclusive and transparent engagement with the platform.
