Not every musician can be a member of GHAMRO, only rights owners – Rex Omar clarifies

Rex Omar, veteran musician and Chairman of GHAMRO, clarified that the organization is exclusively for rights owners—musicians who write or publish songs.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, he emphasized that non-rights owners cannot claim royalties or demand GHAMRO membership.

Omar addressed frequent complaints about royalties, questioning whether claimants are registered members.

He criticized ignorance in the industry, urging musicians to register their works to benefit from GHAMRO.

Royalties, he explained, are supplementary income, as GHAMRO does not handle earnings from live performances or song sales.

Despite ongoing criticisms of inefficiency and lack of transparency, Omar attributed these to misinformation and called for better education to address the issues.
