J.K. Rowling has called for apologies from Sir Keir Starmer and other ministers. This follows a Supreme Court ruling on the definition of a woman.
Last week, the court ruled that "woman" and "sex" in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological terms. The decision upset some politicians. Tens of thousands protested in central London against what they see as a betrayal of the trans community.
Rowling, who opposes transgender women using single-sex spaces, celebrated the ruling. She urged the Prime Minister and government to apologize for their past support of trans women.
She stated, "Women have fought for their rights in my lifetime." Many have sacrificed their safety and jobs to combat harmful ideologies infiltrating institutions.
Rowling noted that women have faced persecution and discrimination. She questioned whether politicians feel any shame about this situation.
She shared a graphic showing Labour officials' previous supportive comments about transgender people. Sir Keir had said, "trans women are women," but Downing Street later clarified he no longer believes that.
Rowling asked if these politicians would apologize for supporting trans rights groups. She claims these groups have harmed vulnerable women in society.
She mentioned ongoing death threats against women following the Supreme Court ruling. Their silence on this issue is troubling, she added.
"I'm one of millions disgusted by this lack of accountability," she said. Last Wednesday's decision came from a case brought by For Women Scotland, which Rowling supported.
