Otumfuo’s Grandson Prince Gyasi Shines at The Met Gala
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's grandson, Prince Gyasi, represented Ghana at the 2025 Met Gala. The event took place on May 5 in New York City. It is one of the biggest fashion platforms globally.
Prince Gyasi was one of three Ghanaians showcasing their talent. The theme for this year's gala was "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." This was the first Met Gala to focus exclusively on menswear since 2003.
Michael Braun, an American socialite, wore a garment from Balmain's Fall/Winter 2024 collection. This outfit featured artwork by Prince Gyasi. They first collaborated during Paris Fashion Week in 2024.
Ghanaian-British designer Ozwald Boateng also made an appearance at the gala. Nigerian musician Burna Boy wore a stylish outfit designed by Boateng. He looked dapper in an oxblood trench coat and burgundy jacquard suit.
Burna Boy inspired fans with his elegant hairstyle and accessories. Nigerian musician Tems wore a striking dress by Ozwald Boateng as well. Her dress had a mermaid-style skirt and a large green bow.
The fabric matched the gala's themed carpet perfectly. Tems accessorized her hair with a similar bow while sporting a braided updo. She carried an umbrella to shield herself from intermittent rain throughout the evening.
American rapper Lauryn Hill also attended the gala for the first time. She wore a custom-made ensemble by Ghanaian designer Jude Dontoh. His design emphasized grace and cultural power at this star-studded event.
