Pay up or play alone—DJ Slim challenges Bishop Dag’s music policy

Media personality DJ Slim has criticized Bishop Dag Heward-Mills. The bishop is the founder of Lighthouse Chapel International. His comments about paying musicians in church sparked controversy.

In a viral sermon, Bishop Heward-Mills said, “Watch out for people who do things for money. In my church, I won’t pay musicians because I play all the instruments myself.” He mentioned playing drums, piano, and guitar.

DJ Slim responded during his show. He found the bishop's stance problematic. He questioned the ethics of expecting free labor in church.

“If he can play every instrument, he should do it himself,” DJ Slim said. He added that the Bible states a man should eat from his toil. Expecting unpaid service raises serious questions.

DJ Slim also discussed whether churches operate as businesses. He pointed out how offerings and tithes are collected each week. “When will we admit that the church is a business? Every church collects money,” he argued. “Whether you call it offering or not, it's still currency intended for trade.”
