PlugOut •Time away in nature, wholesome conversations

Imagine being driven from the busy city to a peaceful farm in Pokrom. This town is located on the Aburi-Nsawam Road in the Eastern Region.

Upon arrival, guests are greeted with fresh coconut and fruit juices. They also enjoy probiotic yogurt with granola and various toppings. Phones are taken away to encourage everyone to unplug and connect with nature.

This was part of the first PlugOut event at Neville Farms Ghana last weekend. Joyce Sackitey Ahiadorme, the Agrileisure Curator, promised a fun day in nature. She delivered exactly that.

After enjoying welcome drinks and snacks, Joyce led an introduction session. Each person shared an interesting memory related to specific years she mentioned. Later, she guided the group through tasks and a short reading session for motivation.

The group task encouraged teamwork among participants. By 2 p.m., lunch was ready from the farm kitchen. The highlight of lunch was grilled or fried rabbit meat.

Neville Farms has been operating since 2020. It features a 600-unit rabbit farm whose droppings serve as manure for vegetables like peppers, tomatoes, cabbage, and cucumbers. Mrs. Ahiadorme explained that meals focus on nutrition and health.

She emphasized using rabbits produced on the farm for delicious meals as part of their marketing strategy. Rabbit meat is becoming popular in Ghana. Some guests were familiar with it while others enjoyed trying it for the first time.

After lunch, guests could choose between a farm tour or relaxing under sheds or hammocks.

Those who stayed under the sheds continued conversations until it was time to return to Accra.

In an interview with The Mirror, Joyce explained her vision for PlugOut. She wanted women, often primary caregivers, to recharge in a serene environment. “The farm reflects my love for nature,” she said.

Joyce aims to help women bond deeply with each other while enjoying nature’s healing benefits. She encourages Ghanaians to explore Neville Farms for outdoor activities.

Besides PlugOut events held monthly, the farm also hosts camping trips, corporate retreats, photoshoots, and family outings in nature.

Dr. Rachael Hansen-Garshong attended the trip as well. She shared that it allowed her time to reflect and meet new people. “Life moves so fast these days,” she noted.

Being busy feels normal now; thus pausing is essential for reflection—something PlugOut provided perfectly. Dr. Hansen-Garshong loved being surrounded by lush greenery near Aburi without distractions from technology.
