The Ghana Police Service is investigating the death of Constable John Kwabena Dogbey.
He drowned in the Offin River on April 2, 2025. This incident occurred during an anti-galamsey operation at Assin Domeabra in the Central Region.
Preliminary findings show that Constable Dogbey was part of the Central North Regional Police Anti-Galamsey Task Force. He was dismantling a Chanfan machine used by illegal miners when he slipped and fell into the river.
Despite immediate rescue efforts, divers retrieved him after several hours. He was rushed to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso, where he was pronounced dead.
His body has been moved to the Police Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The police administration has promised support to his bereaved family during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, the task force dismantled one Chanfan machine and seized two pumping machines. They also confiscated two excavator batteries and three excavator keys along with their chassis numbers.
