Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame has offered his new song, Stop Galamsey, for free use by anyone fighting illegal mining, or "galamsey."
A long-time climate change advocate, Kwame sees the song as his "little contribution" to protecting the earth from the destructive effects of galamsey.
He encouraged political parties, civil society, and media to increase their efforts in combating the issue, stressing music’s subtle power to promote change. Released a week ago, the song has 1.1k YouTube views.
Recently, public calls to end galamsey intensified, prompting President Akufo-Addo to deploy military personnel to affected sites and propose legislation to fully ban mining in forest reserves.
